Family Guy - Something Something Darkside

As with Blue Harvest, this one follows the plot of the film closely, with a few minor detours for the sake of comedy. All of the Family Guy characters reprise their roles in the Star Wars universe, with Stewie as Darth Vader, Peter as Han Solo, Chris as Luke and Lois as Princess Leia. A few other recurring characters and gags from the series show up as well, like Ernie the Giant Chicken as Boba Fett. Due to the lack of female characters, poor Meg is relegated once again to the role of a creature, this time the space slug the Millennium Falcon lands inside after evading Hoth's asteroid belt.

The movie has some funny bits, but it suffers from the same problems that was in Blue Harvest. People have been parodying Star Wars for more than 30 years, so most of the material is used before and therefore dry. The writer, Kirker Butler does have some new observations, though. Like the fact that there are infinite directions they could head when fleeing Hoth, but the rebels head right for the Imperial fleet, or the creepy detail that Lando was wearing Han's clothes at the end of the film. They even recycle some of the jokes from the first Star Wars parody, like some playful shots at Seth Green, who once again points out (as Chris Griffin) that Robot Chicken has done it already.

Family Guy has always taken a rapid fire approach to making gags– it just keeps firing jokes non-stop, and misses just as often as it hits. Something, Something is no different. There are random references that most people won't understand.

7.5/10, though an improvement on the first movie, something something darkside is still not the Star Wars parody fans are expecting of Seth Mcfarlans hugely successful family guy.
